On Wednesday, 4/21 Youth Ambassadors, Mentors and Alumni of the Henrik Lundqvist Foundation met virtually with Washington Capitals panelists to gain background knowledge of various careers working behind the scenes of the National Hockey League.

Moderated by the 2021 HLFYA Alumni President Allen Magie, various Washington Capitals panelists participated in a question and answer period shedding light on their roles with the Capitals.  Chase Pyke, Assistant Manager, Media Relations, spoke of his duties regarding statistical research, content creation and media services.  Taryn Bray, Digital Media Correspondent, discussed her coverage of Capitals’ Community Initiatives and her exciting role in producing written content highlighting players’ lives outside of the hockey world.  Liz Wardlow, Senior Marketing Manager, discussed planning events and promotions for fans as well as giveaways and team events.  Alexa Tanzi, Manager, Game Presentation, discussed her role in writing the scripts for all home games.  The panelists also discussed how they’ve had to shift gears during the pandemic to continue being successful in their roles in assisting the Washington Capitals organization.  Overall, the discussion provided insights to HLFYA members, painting a different picture of the NHL than what fans sometimes view on television.  Much work is put into making games fun and eventful for fans and for the entire Washington Capitals community.  All of us at HLFYA thank the panelist for their time in answering our questions while shedding light on the many roles which aide in the success of the NHL.

Following the panelist discussion, HLFYA members were inspired by hearing information about the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) which is an organization honoring and remembering the sacrifices of our military community. TAPS aims to provide comfort and care to those grieving the deaths of a military loved one. HLFYA members will be participating in a Words of Remembrance service project for the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) to honor and remember the sacrifices of our military community. TAPS is a Caps community partner and HLF is proud to support their work.
