Keegan’s Mom was the inspiration for him to hold a book drive for his independent service project. She is a cancer survivor and has always had a love of books. A trait she passed on to Keegan.

Throughout the month of April, Keegan held a book drive that had an unexpected outcome. He advertised the book fair on social media and put out a collection box. The box was full after just the first day. In total, Keegan received 2,014 donated books.

Keegan donated the books to The Book Fairies, a non-profit organization located on Long Island and collects books for people in need. Keegan had previously volunteered to sort books at The Book Fairies warehouse. He also assisted teachers in selecting books for their classrooms.

“My mom encouraged my reading from a very young age. I read everything I could get my hands on. I’m hoping to motivate children to read with the books I’ve collected and give more kids the opportunity to read.”

Keegan is very thankful to all his family, friends and community members who donated to the book drive.
