For Rachel Coffey’s independent service project, she decided to do a large yard sale at her home. Rachel reached out to her community and urged them to start their spring cleaning, sharing that she would accept anything they wanted to get rid of and sell it for charity. Rachel received furniture, clothing, books, sports equipment, housewares, toys, games and so much more! To market her yard sale, Rachel made flyers and advertised the event on various yard sale websites including Craig’s list.

On May 4th, Rachel and her family held the yard sale and had a great turnout, raising over $1,600 for Henrik Lundqvist Foundation partner New York Presbyterian Children’s Hospital, specifically to assist with their art program.

Overall, the amount of donations (both in money and in items to sell) showed Rachel how a community can rally together with support for a person and charity.
